The Defence Headquarters has instructed military personnel across Nigeria to remain on high alert as the nation prepares to celebrate Easter.
During a briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed that troops have already been deployed and placed on heightened alert to prevent any security incidents during the festive period.
He explained that such measures are standard practice during major celebrations like Christmas and Eid-el-Fitr and will continue throughout Easter to ensure public safety.
Major General Onoja highlighted that criminal networks often exploit festive periods, emphasizing that soldiers have been directed to maintain constant vigilance.
The Defence Headquarters also highlighted its ongoing collaboration with the United States, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s fight against terrorism. This partnership involves intelligence sharing and specialised training for Nigerian forces, enhancing their operational effectiveness on the ground.
While the effects of this cooperation may take time to become fully apparent, Onoja assured that the results would be noticeable in the coming weeks and months. Some details of the partnership remain confidential for security reasons, but the intelligence provided by the US helps Nigerian troops identify threats and respond effectively.
Through these measures, the military aims to guarantee a safe and secure environment for Nigerians during the Easter celebrations.
