Former Governor of Ogun State and current Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned businesswoman and community leader, Chief (Mrs.) Khadijah Adebisi Edionseri, who died on Sunday at the age of 89.
In a heartfelt tribute released today, Otunba Gbenga Daniel described the late Chief Mrs. Edionseri, popularly known as “Cash Madam,” as “a woman of all seasons” whose impact on Abeokuta’s business community and social fabric was profound and far-reaching.
“Her business acumen was legendary, but it was her warmth, wisdom, and generosity that truly set her apart,” Senator Daniel stated, emphasizing the deceased’s role as not just a successful entrepreneur but also as a community pillar.
The former governor noted that despite her advanced age, the news of her passing came as a “rude shock” to many who knew her, testament to her enduring presence and influence in the community. He praised her resilience, noting how she “weathered every storm with grace and emerged stronger.”
Chief Mrs. Edionseri (née Elegbede), whose influence extended beyond her business ventures, was particularly celebrated for her mentorship of younger generations and her contributions to the development of Abeokuta.
According to funeral arrangements announced by the family, the late business icon will be laid to rest today, January 6, 2025, following Islamic rites. The ceremony is scheduled to take place at her residence in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Abeokuta.
Senator Daniel concluded his tribute by praying for the repose of her soul and asking Allah to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss. “Her impact on our community will be felt for generations to come,” he affirmed.
The late Chief Mrs. Edionseri is survived by her children, including Dr. Adebayo Adebowale, and numerous grandchildren. Her passing marks the end of an era in Abeokuta’s business community, where she had been a prominent figure for several decades.
