The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Jude Okoye Chigozie, the elder brother and former manager of Paul and Peter Okoye of the defunct music group P-Square, before Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Okoye was arraigned on Wednesday, February 26, alongside his company, Northside Music Ltd, on a seven-count charge of alleged money laundering involving ₦1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following his plea, prosecution counsel Larry Peters Aso requested a date for the trial and urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility. However, Okoye’s counsel, Inibehe Effiong, informed the court of a pending bail application and requested that his client remain in EFCC custody pending the hearing.
The prosecution opposed this request, arguing that the EFCC facility was overcrowded and urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility instead.
Justice Owoeye adjourned the bail hearing to February 28, 2025, and set April 14, 2025, for trial. He ordered that Jude Okoye be remanded in the Ikoyi correctional facility.
