Tragedy struck Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, early Monday morning when armed bandits launched a deadly raid that left one staff member dead, another injured, and 25 female students abducted.
The attack, which occurred around 4:00 a.m., claimed the life of Hassan Makuku, a staff member at the school. Another employee, Ali Shehu, was wounded during the assault.
According to a statement from the Kebbi State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, the attackers stormed the school compound armed with sophisticated weapons, firing indiscriminately and causing widespread panic among students and staff.
“The police tactical units deployed in the school engaged them in a gun duel. Unfortunately, the suspected bandits had already scaled through the fence of the school and abducted twenty-five students from their hostel to an unknown destination,” Kotarkoshi explained.
Security forces have launched a comprehensive search and rescue operation. Police tactical units are working alongside military personnel and local vigilante groups to track down the kidnappers and ensure the safe return of the abducted students.
Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, has pledged the command’s full commitment to protecting citizens across the state. Authorities are urging residents to stay calm but vigilant while cooperating with ongoing law enforcement efforts to restore peace and security.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with residents expressing deep grief and outrage. Community leaders are demanding immediate government intervention to address the escalating security crisis in the area.
