The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 25th August 2026, as a public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration, which commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The Minister extended his felicitations to Muslims in Nigeria and in the diaspora, describing the season as an opportunity for reflection on values the country urgently needs.
According to him, every Eid-ul-Mawlid offers a moment to draw lessons from a life marked by compassion, humility and service to others — qualities he urged all Nigerians, irrespective of religious affiliation, to imbibe.
Tunji-Ojo also called for the period to be used for collective prayers for the peace and cohesion of the nation, stressing that national unity remains a responsibility shared by all citizens.
The Minister further urged Nigerians to mark the celebration with restraint and mutual respect for one another, extending wishes for a joyous and peaceful Eid to the Muslim community.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property nationwide and to ensuring that peace is sustained at all times.
