Nigeria’s federal government has lauded the Super Eagles following their bronze medal achievement at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, calling the team’s campaign a testament to courage, determination, and national unity that uplifted Nigerians worldwide.
In a Saturday, January 18, 2026 statement, Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris commended the squad for honoring Nigeria’s football legacy and cementing the nation’s reputation as an African football giant.
Idris highlighted how the Eagles’ tournament run—from opening group matches to their final appearance in Casablaba—showcased teamwork, discipline, and relentless determination.
“You did more than compete; you lifted the spirits of millions at home and across the diaspora,” the minister remarked, adding that the bronze medal enhances Nigeria’s distinguished AFCON history.
The government recognized the commitment of players, technical staff, and support personnel, emphasizing their ability to overcome obstacles and deliver maximum effort in every match.
“Your performances against formidable opponents demonstrated discipline and unwavering resolve. You showed us that genuine strength comes from unity, self-belief, and love of country,” the statement noted.
While acknowledging the team fell short of the championship, Idris stressed that the third-place finish was earned through hard work and represents a victory for all Nigerians who rallied behind the squad.
He encouraged the Super Eagles to take pride in their accomplishment and use it as motivation for upcoming competitions, promising continued national support.
“You have performed admirably, and we are deeply grateful for how you represented our nation,” Idris declared. “Well done, Super Eagles. Nigeria celebrates you. May God bless you and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
The Super Eagles’ AFCON 2025 bronze medal has reignited nationwide discussions about football, national cohesion, and Nigeria’s sustained excellence in African competition.
