The Federal Government has strengthened its collaboration with Dangote Cement Plc and other key stakeholders to accelerate affordable housing delivery across Nigeria, with a renewed focus on providing decent homes for low-income earners and workers in the informal sector.
The renewed commitment was highlighted during the 2026 Abuja International Housing Show (AIHS), where industry leaders, policymakers, and housing experts commended Dangote Cement for its role in supporting affordable housing and infrastructure development through the supply of quality building materials.
Stakeholders also praised the President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, for his continued investments in Africa’s industrial growth, describing his contributions as instrumental to economic transformation and sustainable development across the continent.
Speaking at the Dangote Cement exhibition pavilion, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Muttaka Rabe Darma, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s readiness to work closely with the cement manufacturer to reduce Nigeria’s housing deficit.
According to the minister, the theme of this year’s housing show, “Housing Solutions for Low-Income and Informal Workers in Africa,” aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to expand access to affordable, inclusive, and sustainable housing nationwide.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Abuja International Housing Show, Festus Adebayo, described Dangote Cement as a reliable partner whose consistent support has contributed significantly to the growth of the annual event. He noted that Dangote Industries Limited served as a principal sponsor of the show’s 20th edition, while Dangote Cement showcased innovative building products and housing solutions.
Representing the National Sales Director of Dangote Cement, Regional Sales Director for North Central, Bankole George, emphasized that access to housing is essential for dignity, economic productivity, social stability, and inclusive development.
George identified major obstacles to affordable housing, including high land costs, expensive construction materials, limited mortgage access, weak rental systems, and restrictive planning regulations.
He advocated innovative financing options tailored to low-income earners and informal workers, including micro-mortgages, rent-to-own schemes, cooperative savings initiatives, employer-assisted housing programs, and incremental housing loans.
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, also urged African lawmakers to champion housing reforms that would improve access to affordable homes across the continent.

Similarly, former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, called for innovative financing mechanisms to bridge Africa’s widening housing gap and support sustainable urban development.
The 2026 Abuja International Housing Show attracted thousands of policymakers, investors, housing professionals, exhibitors, and delegates from across Africa, further reinforcing its position as one of the continent’s leading platforms for discussions on housing and urban development.
