Comrade Timi Frank, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Friday praised President William Ruto of Kenya for dismissing his entire cabinet in response to widespread Gen-Z protests.
In a statement from Abuja, Frank asserted that Ruto’s action, which addressed a key demand of the protesters, illustrates his willingness to listen and adapt for the betterment of Kenya.
“We commend President Ruto for acting in Kenya’s best interests. His decision to heed the Gen-Z protesters by dismissing his ministers clearly serves the greater good of Kenyans,” Frank stated.
He urged Ruto to urgently implement the other demands of the protesters, suggesting they have the welfare of both his administration and the Kenyan populace at heart.
Frank called on Ruto to release all detained protesters and provide compensation to families who lost loved ones or who have injured members due to security forces’ actions.
He emphasized the opportunity presented by the youth-led protests for Ruto to rebuild and reunite the nation.
“President Ruto must understand that listening to and implementing the protesters’ demands does not indicate weakness,” Frank remarked.
As the United Liberation Movement for West Papua’s Ambassador to East Africa and the Middle East, Frank added, “We encourage him to include dynamic young people in his new cabinet who can positively impact the lives of ordinary Kenyans.”
Frank highlighted that Ruto now has a chance to rectify past errors and urged other continental leaders to emulate Ruto’s example by listening to their people’s grievances and demands.
“We hope President Bola Tinubu’s administration observes and learns from Kenya’s developments, reducing governance costs and eliminating harmful economic policies to avoid similar uprisings,” Frank continued.
He also called for protesters to view the positive outcomes of their movement as a mutual victory and work with Ruto for Kenya’s advancement, acknowledging that the President has shown remorse and willingness to change by addressing their demands.
“The youth of Kenya have demonstrated that true power lies with the people and not with any individual,” Frank pointed out.
He added that by listening to the protesters, President Ruto has shown he is not weakened by power but rather a leader who values the voices of his young citizens.
“The President’s decision to act on the demands of the Kenyan masses who elected him shows his commitment to reason and the collective well-being of Kenyans,” Frank concluded.
He emphasized that the protesters acted in the interest of Kenya’s progress, not to cause destruction or chaos.
Looking ahead, Frank urged Ruto and the Kenyan Government to make well-considered decisions that prioritize the best interests of Kenyans.
