The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development at the Force Headquarters, Frank Mba, has officially retired from the Nigeria Police Force after completing 34 years of distinguished service.
His voluntary retirement comes amid a broader leadership transition within the police hierarchy following the recent exit of former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the appointment of Olatunji Rilwan Disu as the new head of the force.
Meanwhile, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has invited seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) for promotion interviews as part of the process to fill vacant positions at the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG). The selected officers are expected to join the Force Management Team that will work closely with the new Inspector-General.
Those invited for the promotion screening include Margareth Ochalla, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, Ishiaku Mohammed, Zacharia Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman and Umar Shehu Nadada. The commission said the interviews will take place at its headquarters on Friday.
Mba, who once served as the Force Public Relations Officer and spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 1992 as a cadet officer. He quickly distinguished himself by emerging as the best graduating cadet in academics at the Nigeria Police Academy.
A legal practitioner and member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mba obtained his law degree from the University of Lagos and was called to the bar in 2002 after completing his training at the Nigerian Law School. He later earned a Master’s degree in Law with distinction from the University of Dundee.
Over the years, he attended several international professional programmes, including the FBI National Academy in the United States, as well as leadership courses at Harvard University and University of Oxford.
Mba also represented Nigeria in international peacekeeping duties, serving under the United Nations mission in Liberia between 2006 and 2007.
Throughout his career, he held several key positions across operations, investigations, administration and public relations. His assignments included Area Commander in Ajah and Festac in Lagos, Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Commissioner of Police in charge of the Border Patrol Force at Force Headquarters, and Assistant Inspector-General of Police overseeing the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Panti, Lagos.
In his farewell message, Mba expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve during his administration.
He also thanked Nigerians for their support over the decades, describing policing as “a difficult but noble profession,” and said he was leaving the force with deep gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the nation’s security and stability.
