Jaan Roose, renowned Estonian slackliner and holder of Guinness World Records, undertook a daring feat on Thursday by walking on a rope from Sterling Towers in the Marina area of Lagos to the Onome Rig. The project was commissioned by Red Bull, aiming to capture what they term the “Perfect Lagos Selfie.”
Recruited for this ambitious initiative, Roose’s breathtaking journey was detailed by Gboyega Akosile, the Chief Press Secretary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Instagram. Akosile explained the vision behind the effort, stating, “Red Bull is trying to get the Perfect Lagos Selfie with Jaan Roose from Sterling Towers, Marina Lagos to the Onome Rig.”
Jaan Roose, known for his nerves of steel, is not only an Estonian slackliner but also a three-time world champion with numerous world records to his name. Slacklining, a sport encompassing balance training, recreation, and moving meditation, has been Roose’s passion since he started at the age of 18. Little did he anticipate that his journey in slacklining would lead to thrilling audiences worldwide with his unique tricks.
The project, in collaboration with the Lagos State Government through the Lagos Safety Commission, aims to showcase the beauty of Lagos State. Roose’s remarkable walk across the bridge and tracks adds another chapter to his illustrious career, where he holds the distinction of being the first and only athlete to perform a double backflip on a slackline.
