Nigerian Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has alleged that the United States government deceived late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by engaging him in peace negotiations while simultaneously orchestrating his assassination.
Gumi made the claims via his Facebook page, asserting that Washington pursued back-channel diplomacy with Khamenei as a cover for what he described as a coordinated plot against the Iranian leader’s life. He went further to characterize such conduct as a recurring pattern of American foreign policy.
“They engage you with peace talks while they are actually planning to assassinate you when you are off guard — not once, not twice. They are all treacherous people,” Gumi wrote.
The cleric had earlier reacted to the reported killing of Ayatollah Khamenei, which he attributed to a US-Israeli military operation. In a separate post, Gumi praised the late Iranian leader, describing him as a martyr who died championing resistance against what he called the killing of innocent civilians in Gaza and elsewhere.
“Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is a lucky soul,” Gumi wrote, adding that the Iranian leader’s death would, in his view, inspire change across the Muslim world. He also issued a veiled warning to those he held responsible for Khamenei’s death, saying history would judge their actions.
