Two police officers sustained injuries on Friday evening after suspected attackers stormed and set fire to the Isan Police Station in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
A police source said the assault began around 6 p.m., with one of the injured officers reportedly in a coma and receiving treatment in a hospital.
The attackers were said to have damaged and burnt several vehicles, including a bus allegedly used by police personnel from Abuja. The station’s generator and other equipment were also destroyed, while windows, doors, and parts of the building were badly affected.
According to the source, operatives of the Police Mobile Force were alerted while approaching Isan from Oye and were able to repel the attackers before they could take full control of the area. However, some officers initially stationed there were said to have fled during the incident.
A visit to the scene showed extensive destruction, with two vehicles burnt inside the premises and three others outside the station also set ablaze.
As of press time, the state police command had not issued an official statement on the attack.
