Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has declared that his years in office have equipped him with the experience needed to pursue the state’s top job, following his endorsement for the governorship race.
Hamzat made the remarks after a meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja.
At the meeting, Tinubu reportedly gave his backing to Hamzat as the party’s consensus candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election in Lagos State.
Speaking to journalists afterward, Hamzat revealed that the GAC delegation, led by its chairman, Tajudeen Olusi, formally presented him to the President, who endorsed the decision to support his candidacy.
While acknowledging the enormity of the task ahead, Hamzat emphasized that his time serving under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has provided him with valuable insight into governance.
He noted that leadership comes with challenges, but experience remains a key advantage. Drawing an analogy, he said knowing how government works is like understanding a kitchen before attempting to cook—no matter how skilled one may be.
According to him, his familiarity with the inner workings of Lagos governance places him in a strong position to take on the responsibilities of leading the state.
