Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has been cleared by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Screening Committee to take part in the party’s upcoming governorship primary ahead of the 2027 elections.
Hamzat appeared before the screening panel in Abuja over the weekend, where he was formally approved to proceed in the contest.
Speaking to journalists after the exercise, he said the screening process was detailed, transparent, and aligned with the democratic values of the party.
According to him, the exercise was aimed at verifying the credentials, records, and professional experience submitted by all aspirants.
“The screening was designed to verify the credentials, records, and experiences submitted by aspirants seeking to fly the APC flag. The essence is to ensure that everything submitted is accurate and verifiable,” he said.
He explained that he submitted all required documents and responded to questions from the committee based on his public service record and professional background.
“The committee asked questions based on the information provided. It is basically to confirm that what you wrote truly reflects your experience and service,” he added.
Hamzat noted that the panel carefully reviewed his submissions and sought clarifications on his roles in government over the years.
Expressing confidence in the process, he reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and commitment to Lagos State’s development.
“I am very comfortable with my party and confident in the democratic process. Ultimately, the decision rests with party members and the people. Our responsibility is to continue offering our best in service to the state and the country,” he said.
The governorship hopeful also emphasized that Lagos must continue to serve as a model of innovation, good governance, and development in Nigeria, stressing that leadership should remain focused on delivering tangible impact to citizens.
