Representatives from Egbama, Gbaramatu, Isaba, Ogbe-Ijoh, and other Ijaw communities have united in solidarity with their Rivers State counterparts, declaring their intent to resist what they perceive as systematic marginalization.
Eight years after former President Goodluck Jonathan’s exit from office—characterized by the signatories as a “disgrace”—Ijaw leaders are determined not to remain passive in the face of new challenges. They frame the current situation as part of a broader pattern of federal government oppression against the Ijaw people.
The statement emphasizes resource control as a central grievance, arguing that while oil from Ijaw territories fuels national development, the Ijaw people themselves are denied meaningful power and representation.
