A long-standing paternity dispute involving Afrobeat star David Adeleke, known professionally as Davido, has resurfaced after a 12-year-old girl publicly appealed for a DNA test to confirm her identity.
Mitchelle Anuoluwapo, who identifies herself as “Davido’s oldest daughter” on social media, posted an emotional letter on Instagram Thursday requesting the test. However, the musician swiftly rejected her appeal, stating he has already taken five separate DNA tests that all came back negative.
In her post, Anuoluwapo described years of emotional hardship stemming from the unresolved question of her parentage. She said she has endured bullying since age six, with classmates ridiculing her when she told them Davido was her father.
“This year I became a teenager,” she wrote. “As I grow older, I want to establish my identity. I was bullied in school since I was 6-years-old and cried home daily. Other students laughed at me when I told them my father was Mr David Adeleke.”
The young girl added that the experience took a toll on her mental health, requiring professional support. She emphasised that her request for a DNA test is personal and represents what she believes is “the right thing to do.”
“As I transition into a young woman, I am respectfully asking Mr David Adeleke Singer #davido for a DNA test to establish my identity,” she wrote, thanking Nigerians who have supported her emotionally over the past seven years.
Davido responded directly in the comments section of her post and through messages on X (formerly Twitter), firmly denying any biological connection.
“I’ve taken 5 DNA tests, all negative. I am not your father,” he wrote. “Never met your mom. She’s an obsessed fan lying to you. This needs to stop. I actually have children. Stop this nonsense.”
The exchange has sparked widespread attention on social media, with many weighing in on the sensitive dispute.
