The Concerned Iwere Citizens have forcefully rejected recent media reports alleging His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, was involved in arms smuggling activities. In a statement released Saturday, signed by Elder Tom Tuoyo, the group condemned the allegations as “reckless and malicious fabrication” designed to tarnish the reputation of the Itsekiri traditional institution.
“His Majesty has absolutely no connection directly or remotely with the alleged smuggling activities, the procurement of arms, or any supposed plan to instigate unrest,” the statement declared.
Since ascending the throne, the group emphasised that Ogiame Atuwatse III has consistently championed peace, unity, and dialogue, bringing “a new era of hope, renewal, and reconciliation” to Warri Kingdom and beyond.
The Concerned Iwere Citizens called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to conduct professional investigations that focus only on genuinely culpable individuals, while urging media outlets to exercise caution when reporting sensitive matters. The group warned they are prepared to take legal action against those spreading falsehoods about the revered monarch.
“We remain steadfast and united in our commitment to upholding the peace, progress, and dignity of our people,” the statement concluded.
