Singer Jaywon has apologised to his junior colleague Ayra Starr after being accused of playing a part in her Grammy snub and mocking her afterwards.
The 67th Grammy nominees were recently announced, and Ayra Starr’s omission sparked controversy.
Jaywon, who became a voting member of the Recording Academy in July, was accused of playing a part in Ayra’s ommission following their online feud.
To complicate matters, after the Grammy nominees were announced, with Ayra missing from the list, Jaywon shared a photo posing with two Grammy awards, which many saw as a jab at Ayra Starr and they slammed him.
Jaywon has now returned to X to apologise to Ayra.
“If you see Ayra Starr, tell her I’m sorry she wasn’t nominated for this year’s Grammys. I’m a huge fan of her music, and I believe she’s one of the best female vocalists Africa has,” he wrote.
As a voting member of the Recording Academy, Jaywon emphasised his support for elevating artists, not pulling them down.
“On this side, we don’t pull people down. We elevate, not just for today, but for the future. Ola Inu Kan,” the singer wrote on X.
However, X users refused to be swayed by his apology as they insisted he had some influence in the Ayra Starr snub.
“But you Dey among people wey debate for round table make she no dey na,” one X user replied to Jaywon.
“Oya swear say you no dey part of the team whey against her nomination at the Grammy,” another wrote.
In June this year, Jaywon had gone on X to slam Ayra and her supporters after a photo he took with her was circulated to mock him.
