The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, seeking criminal investigation and prosecution of Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, for allegedly breaching aviation safety protocols.
The regulatory body has also advised the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) to immediately place the renowned musician on a no-fly list pending the conclusion of official investigations. This ban prohibits him from air travel during the investigation period.
The action follows a viral video from Wednesday showing K1 De Ultimate blocking a ValueJet aircraft at the domestic wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after allegedly being denied boarding on Tuesday. Aviation and Aerospace Development Minister Festus Keyamo described the incident as resembling a “hostage situation.”
The disruption reportedly interfered with standard operational procedures and raised serious concerns about passenger conduct and airline safety protocols. The incident also resulted in the suspension of the ValueJet flight crew’s licenses – Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba – pending investigation outcomes.
In a statement issued by NCAA’s Public Affairs and Consumer Protection Director, Michael Achimugu, the authority emphasized that preliminary reports indicate K1 De Ultimate’s actions violated Nigerian civil aviation regulations during the scheduled ValueJet flight VK201.
“We have called for a comprehensive criminal investigation and the initiation of appropriate prosecution in accordance with the provisions of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig. CARs) 2023 and all other applicable laws,” the statement read.
Director-General of Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, issued the no-fly advisory in alignment with global aviation standards that prioritize passenger, crew, and operational safety.
The NCAA stressed its commitment to ensuring no individual, regardless of status or public image, undermines the aviation industry’s integrity, noting that all passengers must adhere to the same behavioral standards and compliance requirements within Nigerian airspace.
