The Kano State Ministry of Education has announced a Sallah holiday for all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state in celebration of Eid-el-Kabir.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by the ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Misbahu Yakasai.
According to the statement, the holiday applies to both boarding and day schools across Kano State.
The ministry directed boarding schools to begin the holiday from Saturday, May 23, 2026, while students are expected to resume on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Parents and guardians were advised to pick up their children on the approved closing date and ensure they return promptly for resumption.
The statement noted that day schools would commence their Sallah break on Friday, May 22, 2026, and resume academic activities on Monday, June 1, 2026.
The ministry urged school authorities, parents and guardians to strictly adhere to the approved holiday timetable to avoid disruption to the academic calendar.
Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Makoda, wished students, teachers, parents and members of the education community a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
He also encouraged the school community to use the festive season to promote peace, discipline and good behaviour.
Academic activities are expected to continue fully after the holiday period.
