Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Omisore has recounted what he described as a strange encounter with witches, claiming he once attended a meeting of a witchcraft coven to resolve a dispute.
The 48-year-old actor made the revelation during a recent interview on the African A-List podcast, while discussing how witches are portrayed in Nollywood movies.
According to Omisore, he was invited to the meeting after a woman allegedly accused him of offending her and destroying something belonging to her.
He said he accepted the invitation in order to explain his side of the story, despite claiming that he had never met the woman before.
“Witches exist. I have gone to a meeting with witches before and came back to the house. Yes, they invited me. I went to settle a dispute.
“One of them reported me. She said I offended her, and I was summoned. I went to explain my own side of the issue. I don’t really understand the allegation, but she accused me of ruining something that belongs to her,” he said.
Omisore further claimed that he saw several people at the gathering, with some allegedly carrying calabashes on their heads.
He also contrasted his account of the alleged encounter with the way witch characters are usually presented in Nigerian movies.
According to him, the people he claimed to have seen did not have the heavily painted faces or costumes commonly associated with witches in Nollywood productions.
“If I want to shoot a movie with a witch character, I have never seen a witch that paints their face like the one in a Nigerian movie. The ones that I saw wore iro and buba,” Omisore added.
The actor’s claims have since generated reactions, particularly his description of the alleged meeting and the appearance of those he said were present.
