Popular Fuji singer, Wasiu Ayinde a.k.a Kwam 1 has revealed that his colleague, Ayinla Kollington has constantly failed to reciprocate his kind gestures.
Speaking during an interview on the Agbaletu Radio with Bamidele Adeyanju as host, the legendary musician blasted Kollington for not even reaching out when his mother died early this year.
According to Kwam 1, while he helped with the burial arrangements when Kollington’s mum passed and took care of all the expenses to bring several dignitaries to the funeral, his colleague could not even console him with a message when he lost his mother.
The singer said that Alhaji Kollington had no excuse not to reach out because he had it on good authority that his colleague was in the country when his mother passed away. Kwam 1 disclosed that the only excuse Kollington would have is that he eventually called, but he was already angry by then, so he did not pick up.
“I’m very angry with Alhaji Kollington for not reaching out or offering condolences when I lost my mother. I joined hands with him to bury his own mother. I supported him to give his mother a befitting burial. I brought many dignitaries to the burial, including governors, and I handled all the finances 100%.
See how he paid me back. What could have happened after everything I did for him? He was in Nigeria, hale and hearty when my mom passed away, and the only excuse he could give was that he called, and I didn’t pick. Am I not supposed to be angry?” he said.
Speaking on the report that he initiated the registration of the Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria (FUMAN) with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Kwam 1 confirmed that the report is true.
According to him, he personally sponsored the drafting of the association’s constitution, however, despite his massive contributions to make Fuji the enjoyable form of music it is today, he keeps facing criticism from within the industry.
“My Fuji was not supposed to become something controversial. When I had the chance to put my name on Fuji during registration, I did not do so. I registered Fuji in Nigeria. I registered it as the Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria (FUMAN). The title of our genre of music is Fuji. I registered it with the Corporate Affairs Commission.
I drafted the constitution. I single-handedly volunteered. The constitution was written in my house. I selected a constitutional drafting committee — Fasaye Alao, Muhideen Asekun, Raji Akangbe as interim president, Kolotiti, who was my personal secretary, was the one typing. They were having meetings at my house. And the meetings were held in the presence of my lawyer.
God used me to do many things. What did you pay me back with? Whatever they are doing is spoiling the image of Fuji,” Wasiu added.
