Lady Doja Otedola, the esteemed former first lady of Lagos State and matriarch of the Otedola dynasty, has been honored with a fellowship award in a notable ceremony held during the combined 35th convocation and 76th anniversary event at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH).
The event also saw the conferment of fellowship awards upon Hassan Sunmonu, the inaugural president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, and Professor Babagana Zulum, the Governor of Borno State.
The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, addressed the gathering, encouraging YABATECH graduates to apply the knowledge acquired from the institution for the betterment of humanity and to uphold exemplary citizenship. He appealed to stakeholders and industrialists to collaborate with government initiatives by contributing to research, infrastructure development, scholarships for underprivileged students, capacity-building, and graduate employment.
Mamman emphasized the significance of partnerships with stakeholders, citing the potential of such collaborations to complement the efforts of agencies like TETFund, PTDF, and International Development Partners. He revealed the ongoing development of a four-year strategic plan as a roadmap for the sector’s progress, highlighting the Federal Government-organized national stakeholders workshop on October 19 as a crucial step in reshaping the future of education in Nigeria.
Acknowledging the vital role of science and technology education in national growth, Mamman underscored the central position occupied by the polytechnic sub-sector in advancing technology development. The director of legal services at the Federal Ministry of Education, Ezonebi Azorbo, represented Minister Tahir Mamman at the event.
