Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, attached to the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a driver for stuffing 15 children into a Volkswagen Passat car.
The driver, who was contracted to take the children to a beach, locked four of the children in the car trunk while 11 others were crammed together.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the State Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja.
The statement noted that the vehicle was reported by “concerned citizens on the Lekki–Ikoyi Link Bridge at about 8 p.m. on Sunday.
“Upon intervention, the police noticed that the driver, who had been contracted to transport the children to a beach, had locked four of the children in the car trunk while 11 others were crammed together.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that one child had collapsed earlier in the day due to similar transportation conditions but recovered after receiving medical attention.”
“The State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, commends residents of Lagos State for always promptly alerting the authorities to suspicious person/happenings,” the PPRO added.

It was gathered that the children, which included a girl and two boys between the ages of two and four years, were locked inside for some time by one Fatimo Ganiyu said to be their grandmother.
Some members of the community who became curious about their whereabouts were said to have immediately alerted the police on Wednesday.
Efforts to get the reaction of the state Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, to ascertain the reason for the sealing off of the party secretariat were not successful as her phone rang out at the time of filing this report.
The Agada-led faction had constituted a 21-men zoning committee drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state and was expected to be inaugurated on Friday.
But in a swift response, the Omakolo-led team had in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Terseer Agber, called on all party members and the general public to disregard the zoning committee constituted by the Agada-led committee.
