Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted more than 1.5 million pills of Tramadol concealed inside two trucks that entered Nigeria through the Benin Republic border, dealing another major blow to drug trafficking networks.
The agency disclosed that the seizure followed a similar operation carried out just a week earlier in Lagos, where officers recovered 558,900 pills of Tramadol 250mg hidden in a specially designed false-bottom compartment beneath a truck.
According to the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the latest operation was based on credible intelligence, which led operatives to intercept two additional trucks travelling from Togo through the Benin Republic into Nigeria using the same smuggling route and concealment method.
Babafemi said the trucks were carrying more than three times the quantity of drugs seized in the previous operation, with the consignment allegedly destined for northern Nigeria.
He noted that the latest interception represents another significant setback for drug trafficking syndicates after authorities intensified efforts to block illegal shipments through the country’s seaports.
The NDLEA spokesman added that disrupting the supply chain would help prevent the drugs from reaching criminal groups, including bandits, while also protecting young people from substance abuse and strengthening public safety.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks operating across Nigeria’s borders.
