The Nigeria Police Force has suspended nationwide enforcement of its Tinted Glass Permit policy after a court issued an interim restraining order, just days before the planned implementation date.
The police had announced on December 15, 2025, that enforcement would resume on January 2, 2026, as part of measures to enhance public safety and internal security across the country.
However, the Force was served with an interim court order on December 17, 2025, in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, which blocks enforcement until the full case is heard or the order is overturned.
Respecting the judicial process, the Nigeria Police Force has formally appeared in court, filed preliminary objections, and requested that the interim order be vacated. The case has been scheduled for further hearing on January 20, 2026.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun emphasized the Force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law while fulfilling its mandate to protect citizens and property. He stated that the police will continue using lawful, intelligence-based approaches to address security concerns nationwide.
The public will be informed of any updates following the court’s decision on the matter, with considerations for public order and national security guiding future actions.
