The Nigerian Army has arrested two of its personnel for allegedly serving as private security guards during the wedding ceremony of popular Nigerian TikTok content creator, Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, in Lagos.
The soldiers were reportedly taken into custody after images and videos from the high-profile wedding surfaced on social media, showing uniformed military personnel providing security at the event. The incident quickly attracted widespread public attention and raised concerns over the unauthorized use of military personnel at private social functions.
Military authorities launched an investigation into the matter shortly after the videos emerged. Preliminary findings reportedly revealed that the two soldiers participated in the event without obtaining the necessary approval from the Nigerian Army.
According to military sources, personnel of the Nigerian Army are prohibited from engaging in private security duties or acting as bodyguards, escorts, or bouncers for civilians without official authorization. Such actions are considered a breach of military regulations and disciplinary codes.
The soldiers have since been placed under military custody and are expected to face disciplinary proceedings in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and existing military regulations. The Army has reiterated that its personnel are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and discipline at all times. It stressed that military uniforms, weapons, and official authority must never be used for personal gain or private commercial engagements.
Although the wedding was attended by several celebrities, influencers, and dignitaries, there is currently no indication that Peller or the event organizers are under investigation. Military authorities are focusing primarily on the conduct of the soldiers and whether any individuals facilitated or encouraged the alleged violation of military rules.
The incident has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many Nigerians questioning why serving military personnel were seen providing security at a private wedding instead of performing their official duties.
The Nigerian Army has assured the public that it will conclude its investigation and ensure that anyone found to have violated military regulations is held accountable in line with the law.
