Godiya Akwashiki, the senator representing Nasarawa North, has passed away at age 52 following an extended battle with illness.
According to a family source who spoke anonymously with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Nassarawa Eggon, Akwashiki died at a medical facility in India on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
The source described the senator’s death as a significant loss, noting his dedication to developing the senatorial district and implementing empowerment initiatives.
“Throughout Nasarawa North’s history, Senator Akwashiki distinguished himself through his effective leadership,” the source said. “His development projects reached every corner of the constituency, and he achieved the rare distinction of winning re-election for a second term in the zone.”
Akwashiki began his political career in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, where he served as both Majority Leader and Deputy Speaker before his election to the Nigerian Senate in 2019.
Born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nassarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State, the late senator was 52 years old at the time of his passing.
