The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has confirmed that All Progressives Congress (APC) members are actively lobbying for Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, to serve as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 elections.

Johnson emphasised that such an offer would not be disrespectful, stating that while the decision of whether to accept remains with Kwankwaso, any choice would be made through party consensus.
The development represents a significant political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Johnson confirming he has received direct appeals from APC members encouraging Kwankwaso to consider the proposition. “People from the APC have called me to say: ‘If he is offered, please encourage him to accept,’ but it is a team game,” Johnson noted, highlighting his decade-long working relationship with the former Kano State governor since 2013.
Johnson stressed that the NNPP has maintained openness to collaborative discussions with any political party focused on advancing Nigeria’s progress since the 2023 elections. This potential alliance could leverage Kwankwaso’s substantial political influence in Kano State and across Northern Nigeria, where he remains a formidable figure.
