The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has dismissed recent claims suggesting that it approved Shell International Plc’s sale of its onshore assets to Renaissance for $1.3 billion.
The report, initially published by Businessday, alleged that the Commission had granted regulatory approval for the transaction. However, in a press statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs and Corporate Communication, Olaide Shonola, NUPRC labelled the claims as “baseless,” clarifying that no such approval had been given.
“It must be firmly stated that the information contained in the publication did not emanate from the Commission,” the statement emphasized.
NUPRC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and assured the public that it would officially address the transaction at the appropriate time. The Commission also urged stakeholders and the public to disregard the misleading report, cautioning against the spread of false information.
