Ogun 2027: Dapo Abiodun dumps Yayi, signs pact with Dimeji Bankole

In a last-minute attempt to get the support of Ogun central voters for his reelection bid, governor Dapo Abiodun signed a memorandum of understanding with former speaker of the house of representatives, Dimeji Bankole.

The pact which was signed in the presence of Egba council chieftains on Friday night included a commitment to support the candidacy of the former speaker while the governor will in turn support the shift of power to the region in 2027.

The new development will pit the governor against Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi who has made known his desire to contest for position in 2027. Senator Yayi is from the Ogun West district of the state.

Governor Abiodun is facing a tedious task in his reelection bid. He has continued to face stiff opposition from the civil servants and state workers over his anti-workers posture.

During the week, he played host to series of endorsements from opposition parties and religions and trade unions.

However, he continues to encounter resistance from many big politicians in the state.

The former governor of the state and senator-elect, Gbenga Daniel has kept mum despite calls on him to endorse the candidacy of the governor.

It was gathered that Daniel’s camp are divided over the choice of who to vote as governor, while some said to be benefitting from the Dapo Abiodun government, others are not persuaded to do so. They complained that the current government is not people friendly, and have not done well in terms of improving the lives of the populace.
