Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has nominated prominent businessman and politician, Martin Anayochukwu Oli, for appointment as a commissioner in the state, a move the government says reflects its commitment to inclusive governance.
The nomination was disclosed in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor. According to the statement, Oli’s name has been forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly, where he is expected to undergo screening and confirmation before assuming office.
Martin Oli, an indigene of Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, is widely recognised as a respected leader of the Igbo community in Edo State. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a successful businessman and grassroots politician with notable contributions to community development and social advancement.
The Edo State Government noted that Oli has consistently supported initiatives aimed at improving the economic and social well-being of residents through his business ventures and political engagements. His leadership within the private sector and active involvement in community affairs were also highlighted as key factors behind his nomination.
According to the statement, Governor Okpebholo’s decision underscores his administration’s resolve to foster unity, inclusiveness and broad-based participation in governance by drawing competent individuals from diverse backgrounds into public service.
The government reiterated that the administration remains focused on harnessing the expertise, experience and contributions of qualified individuals committed to the progress of Edo State, regardless of their ethnic origin.
Oli’s appointment, however, will only take effect upon successful screening and confirmation by the Edo State House of Assembly.
