First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has emphasized that Nigeria’s advancement hinges on national unity and collective action, as she received recognition at the Leadership Annual Conference and Awards 2025 in Abuja on Thursday.
Delivering a speech that blended appreciation with a passionate call for solidarity across political, cultural and religious lines, Mrs. Tinubu stressed that the nation’s future requires citizens to overcome divisions in the face of mounting global and domestic pressures.
“The future of our nation depends on our willingness to work together across cultural and religious differences for the good of all. For a house divided against itself cannot stand,” she stated.
The First Lady, honoured by the Leadership Newspaper board at the year’s outset, characterized the recognition as a collective achievement rather than an individual accolade.
“I do not take this honour alone,” she told attendees including former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Amina Mohammed, state governors, legislators, traditional rulers and top government officials.
“This award is for all those who have helped me along the way, especially women, young people and community leaders who work tirelessly every day to uplift others and ignite hope in our nation,” she added.
Mrs. Tinubu praised Leadership Newspaper Chairman Mrs. Zainab Nda-Isaiah for preserving and advancing the legacy of the organization’s late founder, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah.
“I believe that looking down today, he would be proud of you for keeping the fire of this organisation burning,” she remarked, lauding the publication’s dedication to journalism that educates, motivates and reinforces democratic values.
She acknowledged the attendance of governors from Imo, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Yobe and Zamfara states, alongside federal officials and traditional leaders.
The First Lady gave particular commendation to UN Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Amina Mohammed, describing her keynote address as both timely and illuminating.
“Your reflections offered practical guidance and clarity on the choices we are called upon to make as a nation,” Mrs. Tinubu said, recognizing her enduring dedication to Africa’s advancement.
Calling her participation personally meaningful, Mrs. Tinubu said the event offered a platform to celebrate exceptional individuals and express gratitude as the year begins.
She dedicated the award to Nigerians who remain committed to compassion, selflessness and service.
“I dedicate this award to every citizen who believes that selflessness and humaneness can truly change lives,” she declared, encouraging Nigerians to collaborate in building the nation they envision.
