One person has been reported dead while 14 others were injured in a road crash involving two vehicles on Long Bridge by Hogan Guard area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to an eyewitness who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, the crash occurred when a tyre of a Volkswagen minibus conveying passengers pulled out, forcing it to collide with a Toyota Camry car.
It was gathered that the Volkswagen bus with Registration Number LSF264YD was coming from the Mowe axis of Ogun State, heading towards Berger area of Lagos State before the tyre pulled out while the vehicle was in motion leading to a collision with another vehicle with Registration Number SMK191FK.
When contacted, the Public Relations officer of the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident.
She said, “I can confirm the accident which happened at about 0650hrs on Tuesday. Two vehicles were involved; a Volkswagen minibus with Registration Number LSF264YD and a Toyota Camry car with Registration Number SMK191FK.
“The cause of the accident was that the tyre of the Volkswagen bus pulled out while in motion and collided with the Toyota Camry car which resulted in the death of one person while 14 people were injured. A total of 16 people were involved.”
Okpe noted that the injured persons were taken to the Accident Emergency Hospital in the Ojota area of Lagos State while the remains of the dead person was deposited at Divine Touch Hospital morgue.
