Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has summoned an emergency security council meeting following a wave of fresh attacks and destruction of government property across parts of the state.
The governor disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, amid growing concerns over political violence ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
According to the statement, the emergency meeting will be held at the Governor’s Office and will be attended by top security chiefs and service commanders operating within Osun State.
The state government said the meeting became necessary due to increasing incidents of violence, thuggery, and attacks allegedly carried out by supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adeleke expressed concern over the worsening security situation, questioning why public facilities and properties were being vandalised without any arrests made by security agencies.
He stressed that the security council meeting would focus on strategies to prevent further breakdown of law and order while restoring public confidence in the ability of security agencies to maintain peace across the state.
The latest development follows the killing of Kolade Eluyera, son of the Accord Party Women Leader in Ikire, located in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State.
