Abia State Governor Alex Otti has dismissed claims by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma that all Southeast governors have agreed to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, describing the statement as a personal opinion rather than a collective position.
Speaking during a press conference in Umuahia, Otti said Uzodinma has no authority to speak on behalf of other governors in the Southeast regarding their political choices ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to Otti, while Uzodinma is entitled to publicly support President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, he cannot claim to represent the views of his fellow governors or the entire Southeast region.
His reaction follows Uzodinma’s recent remarks in Owerri during a meeting with the Imo State Elders Council and traditional rulers, where he stated that the five Southeast governors had resolved to work together to secure Tinubu’s re-election, regardless of their political affiliations.
Uzodinma attributed the alleged consensus to what he described as President Tinubu’s unprecedented commitment to the development of the Southeast through major infrastructure projects and economic initiatives.
The Imo governor also maintained that the administration had delivered visible democratic dividends across the region, arguing that federal government interventions were evident in several states.
However, Otti distanced himself from the claim, insisting that discussions about the 2027 presidential election are premature.
He stressed that every governor and political stakeholder would make their decision at the appropriate time, adding that no individual has the mandate to announce a collective position on behalf of the region.
A video of Otti’s remarks has since circulated online, drawing reactions from political observers and supporters across the country.
