The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Wing, has called for the immediate rescue of a primary school headmaster abducted by suspected gunmen in Itesiwaju Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, the union’s Chairman, Fatai Hassan, and Secretary, Salami Olukayode, identified the victim as Mr. M.K. Owoade, Headmaster of Nomadic Basic School, Ogodu, Igbojaye.
According to the union, Owoade was kidnapped at about 5:00 p.m. on Saturday while working on his farm. The incident was reported to the state leadership through the NUT branch in Itesiwaju Local Government Area.
The union described the abduction as alarming, saying it reflects the worsening security situation affecting teachers and other education workers across the country.
It appealed to the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, security agencies and other relevant authorities to intensify efforts to ensure the headmaster’s safe and immediate release. The union also urged the authorities to strengthen security in schools and communities to protect education workers and residents.
The NUT expressed sympathy with Owoade’s family, colleagues and pupils, praying for his safe return.
It also advised teachers across the state to remain vigilant amid the prevailing security challenges while praying for God’s protection over all citizens and the safe release of the abducted headmaster.
