The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the South-South Development Commission Bill into law, describing it as a historic move that reinforces the Federal Government’s commitment to even regional development.
In a statement signed by Ambassador Dr. Godknows Boladei Igali, OON, National Chairman of PANDEF, the organization also commended the National Assembly for its timely work on the legislation, which aims to tackle the unique socio-economic and environmental challenges facing the South-South region.
Boosting Confidence in Federal Commitment
PANDEF highlighted that the signing of the bill has renewed the people’s confidence in the Federal Government’s efforts to address the developmental deficits in the region. The body stressed that the South-South region, which has played a pivotal role in sustaining Nigeria’s economy through its vast oil and gas resources, deserves a structured and effective intervention to improve infrastructure and social well-being.

Call for Urgent Action on Environmental and Infrastructure Deficits
While celebrating this milestone, PANDEF emphasized that critical outstanding issues, including environmental remediation from oil exploration and acute infrastructural deficits, remain existential threats to the region. The forum urged the Federal Government to prioritize these concerns in its development agenda.
Appeal for Restoration of Democratic Order in Rivers State
PANDEF also called on President Tinubu to urgently address the political crisis in Rivers State, following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor, and the State House of Assembly. The forum referenced widespread national appeals for intervention and urged the President to restore normal democratic governance in the state.
The forum concluded by reaffirming its commitment to collaboration with the Federal Government in fostering peace, development, and progress in the region.
