Founder and senior pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr Paul Enenche, has turned down a N30M donation from the Kebbi State Government during a healing and deliverance crusade held at the Haliru Abdu Stadium, Birnin Kebbi.
The gathering, which happened on Wednesday, attracted a massive crowd and concluded the Dunamis nationwide gospel crusades.
During the event, a government official climbed the stage to announce the donation on behalf of Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris.
“Our Governor, the people’s governor, had graciously approved the donation of the sum of N30 million to this gathering.
That is to the organising committee. Which you know that whenever His Excellency made a donation, he do not leave without bringing that donation in cash,” he said.
However, before the audience could even react, a stern “No, no” was heard from the microphone, words from Pastor Becky Enenche, the wife of the senior pastor.
Ignoring the interruption, the announcer continued, “Before I leave this place, I want to present that N30 Million in cash.”
Mrs. Enenche insisted, interrupting again with a calm “Just hold on,” as sections of the crowd applauded her interjection.
Paul Enenche eventually stepped in to address the situation, breaking down the church’s stance on financial rewards.
According to him, Dunamis International Gospel Centre believes government money should solely be used for government projects, while church money should be used for the growth of the house of God.
“We believe government money should be used for government project, and government things, and church money should be used for church things, not mixed together,” he said amid a resounding applause from the crowd.
He further noted that the Dunamis Glory Dome, situated in Abuja and recognised as one of the largest church auditoriums in the world, was built “without a single kobo from any government.”
The incident has sparked intense reactions online, with several Nigerians hailing the Enenches for not mixing the affairs of the church with politics.
Pastor Enenche, who is also a medical doctor, is currently one of Nigeria’s most influential pastors, popular for his passionate sermons and compelling evangelism.
