Leaders of the BATOGD Movement on Thursday raised the alarm over what they described as a politically motivated police siege laid on the Ijebu Ode residence of former Ogun State Governor and serving Senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, accusing the Chairman of the Ijebu Ode Local Government of allegedly misleading security forces with false information to orchestrate the clampdown.
Addressing journalists at a press conference on Thursday, April 23, 2026, the movement’s leadership said that on Wednesday, April 22, armoured vehicles and hundreds of police personnel were deployed to cordon off all roads leading to Daniel’s Obalofin Court residence in Ijebu Ode — an action they condemned as a gross abuse of executive power reminiscent of military rule.
“We are deeply surprised by this turn of events,” the group said, adding that its preliminary investigations revealed that the council chairman allegedly fed the police with false narratives about an impending gathering at the Senator’s home to justify the blockade.
The siege came barely days after what the group described as a manipulated “endorsement show” staged by allies of Governor Dapo Abiodun, which was packaged as an APC Caucus Meeting for Ogun East Senatorial District stakeholders. The BATOGD Movement alleged that many leaders, including Senator Daniel, were lured to the event under the guise of a legitimate party stakeholders’ caucus, only to arrive and find the hall filled largely with loyalists of the Governor who were not qualified to attend a senatorial caucus meeting. The group said some qualified members were reportedly told to leave because “this is a DA show.”
The BATOGD Movement — a community engagement vehicle operating in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Daniel’s empowerment initiatives — said it had conducted peaceful tours across seven of the nine local government areas in the Ogun East Senatorial District since September 2025, with no incident of violence or public disorder. The tour, which included micro-credit schemes, medical outreach with Emzor Pharmaceuticals, and eye care programmes with the Eye Foundation, was scheduled to hold its Ijebu Ode edition at the Obanta Club in the GRA before it was postponed for logistical reasons. The group said the heavy police deployment was therefore unwarranted.
The movement also referenced the alleged midnight demolition of DATKEM Plaza in Ijebu Ode — a property belonging to Senator Daniel’s wife, Yeye Olufunke Daniel — on September 10, 2023, which it linked to the same council chairman who was then serving as vice chairman of the council. “Executive lawlessness is fast becoming the norm in our state,” the group declared.
While acknowledging a prompt response from the Inspector General of Police in restoring order, the BATOGD Movement announced that its Ijebu Ode community tour would proceed as scheduled, with formal notification to all relevant security agencies.
The group also noted that the APC in Ogun State had on April 13 adopted President Tinubu as its consensus 2027 presidential candidate and Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) as its gubernatorial candidate, both positions the movement expressed full support for.
