Rivers PDP Candidate Fubara Releases Policy Document for Healthcare When Elected Governor
Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, Director, New Media, PDP Campaign for the Rivers governorship election, assured that her party’s candidate, Mr. Siminalayi Fubara is committed to improving healthcare in the state, both at primary and tertiary healthcare levels when elected on March 18.
Semenitari stated that the PDP candidate has put together a well-researched policy document outlining his plans to introduce various reforms to the healthcare system, such as improved access to quality care, improved infrastructure, and increased funding for healthcare providers.

Speaking with NAN, Semeniatri assured Rivers citizens of Fuara’s commitment to providing universal health care while sustaining the legacy of Governor Nyesom Wike in the sector. He will improve access to quality health care in underserved communities, reduce prescription drug costs, expand mental health services, and invest in preventative health.

According to Semenitari, Fubara plans to increase the health budget to manage the State’s primary healthcare system efficiently, and establish the Rivers State Healthcare Intervention Fund to provide free healthcare to under-five-year-olds and pre-and postnatal services to pregnant and nursing mothers.
According to the policy document, “…Fubara’s administration will take steps to implement the Rivers State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme to advance universal health insurance coverage for citizens. He will rehabilitate dilapidated primary and secondary healthcare centers and hospitals across the State. New health centers and hospitals will be provided for communities and local governments. He will take steps to ensure the sustainable availability of essential medicines at all health facilities across the State.
“He will strengthen public health and infectious diseases prevention and control systems in the State. He will work with all stakeholders to ensure access to public and preventive healthcare services, including universal immunization for children and cancer screening for men and women. He will increase funding for the Rivers State Teaching Hospital to become one of the best tertiary hospitals in the country. He will sustain the operations of the Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Diseases Diagnostic and Treatment Centre in partnership with competent private healthcare service providers; he will sustain Governor Wike’s special scholarship program for Rivers State medical students. He will provide bonded fellowships, post-doctoral grants, and scholarships in special areas of medicine and surgery where the state lacks manpower,” Semenitari noted.
