Manchester United legend, Roy Keane has hailed Marcus Rashford for keeping Ollie Watkins on the bench at Aston Villa.
Speaking during an interview with the press, Keane revealed that Unai Emery deserves lots of praise for preferring Rashford against Manchester City.
According to him, the fact that Marcus has a good goalscoring record at the Etihad made the decision to start him a straightforward one, and it is not Emery’s job to keep Watkins happy.
Keane revealed that managers are not appointed to keep certain players happy, instead, they are employed to deliver results, and Unai has proven he is experienced enough to realise that.
“Rashford obviously has a good track record here with United. He’s produced in big games before. So it’s a tough decision for the manager to make. But he’s got vast experience of making these big decisions. When a manager is asked about keeping players happy, that’s not his job.
A manager’s job is not to keep players happy, it’s to get results. This manager is doing it. And it’s a good option to have in terms of coming off the bench,” he said.
Keane concluded by saying the Spanish manager simply needs a balanced squad to keep earning maximum points in the EPL, so every decision he makes with his starting line-up is crucial.
He maintained that Villa is under massive pressure to qualify for the Champions League, and Emery has brilliant starters and capable substitutes to make it happen.
