Prominent media entrepreneur Seye Kehinde marked his 60th birthday with an elaborate celebration in Lagos on Thursday, attracting distinguished guests from political, religious, and entertainment circles.
The festivities began with a thanksgiving service at Methodist Church on Salvation Road in Opebi, Ikeja, followed by a special birthday lecture at Oranmiyan Hall, Airport Hotel. Former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola delivered the keynote address, highlighting Kehinde’s significant contributions to Nigerian journalism.
Guests, adorned in traditional white attire complemented by turquoise blue accessories, were treated to musical performances by legendary juju maestro Ebenezer Obey. Notable attendees included Pastor Idowu Iluyomade and his wife Siju, Rev. Mother Esther Ajayi, and Ovation publisher Dele Momodu.
Though unable to attend in person, President Bola Tinubu honored the celebrant with a warm tribute online, commending Kehinde’s transformative impact on lifestyle journalism since founding City People magazine in November 1996. The President praised Kehinde’s professional journey from his early days at African Concord to co-founding The NEWS and TEMPO magazines before establishing his own publication.
“Seye Kehinde’s remarkable journey from a bold reporter to a respected media entrepreneur is an inspiring example to the younger generation,” President Tinubu stated, describing Kehinde’s career as a testament to “resilience, innovation, and dedication to media excellence.” The President encouraged the publisher to continue championing credible journalism in the digital age and wished him many more productive years ahead.
