Chairman, Senate Committee on Media And Public Affairs, Dr Ajibola Basiru, has stressed the need for Government to address the huge recurrent expenditure taking the lion’s share of the nation’s budget by streamlining the Ministry and Department Agencies, MDAS.
Dr Basiru made the case while contributing to the debate on the Revised 2020 Appropriation Bill at the plenary on Thursday.
The Senate’s Spokesperson submitted that no meaningful development can take place in a situation where high recurrent expenditure dwarfs capital expenditure.
Basiru also spoke against reduction of the vote for the judiciary, stressing that the Covid-19 crisis has posed a big challenge to administration of justice in the country.
