The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates across Nigeria and selected West African countries.
The examination body announced the release of the results on Wednesday through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, directing candidates to generate their result-checking PINs on waec.org before accessing their results on waecdirect.org.
During a press briefing in Lagos, the Head of WAEC’s Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Dangut, disclosed that the council withheld the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 percent of those who sat for the 2026 computer-based WASSCE, over allegations of examination malpractice.
According to WAEC, 1,959,668 candidates from 24,207 schools in Nigeria, the Republic of Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea registered for the examination, while 1,950,726 candidates eventually took part.
The council revealed that 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 percent, obtained credits in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
In addition, 1,687,378 candidates, or 86.50 percent, earned five credits or more regardless of whether they passed English Language and Mathematics.
WAEC noted that the percentage of candidates who secured five credits, including English and Mathematics, declined by 1.42 percentage points compared to the 2025 examination.
A breakdown of the successful candidates showed that 558,883 males (28.65 percent) and 641,631 females (32.89 percent) achieved the benchmark of five credits, including English and Mathematics.
Female candidates accounted for 997,267 (51.12 percent) of those who sat for the examination, while 953,459 males (48.88 percent) participated.
The examination body further stated that the results of 1,834,695 candidates, representing 94.05 percent, have been fully processed and released. However, 116,031 candidates (5.95 percent) still have their results undergoing processing.
How to Check the 2026 WAEC Result
Candidates are required to first generate their Serial Number and PIN before checking their results by following these steps:
- Visit waec.org and click on the “Serial Number and PIN” menu.
- Select the 2026 examination year and the appropriate examination diet.
- Enter your Examination Number and the National Identification Number (NIN) used during WAEC registration.
- Provide your email address and phone number to receive a One-Time Password (OTP).
- Enter the OTP to retrieve your Serial Number and PIN.
- Proceed to waecdirect.org to check your result using the generated details.
Candidates can also download their WAEC digital ID card to their mobile devices through the portal.
