Billionaire businessman and retired General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma has put his luxury hotel in London up for sale after the property recorded significant financial losses.
Danjuma, 88, has investments across several sectors, including oil and gas, telecommunications, real estate, hospitality, solid minerals, pharmaceuticals and maritime businesses.
His family fortune is partly managed through the TY Danjuma Family Office, which is registered in England and Wales and operates from Surrey in the United Kingdom. The family office oversees investments in areas such as property, technology stocks, hotels, industrial gases, film production and art.
In 2019, the family office acquired the historic Kings Arms Hotel in the Hampton Court area of South West London for about £2.4 million. The Grade II-listed boutique property had 14 rooms at the time and was later refurbished to include 13 en-suite bedrooms, a bar, restaurant and separate dining facilities.
However, the hotel struggled financially despite the investment and refurbishment.
According to available financial records, the hotel recorded a loss of about £559,000 in one year and a further loss of £526,000 in its final year, despite generating about £575,000 in revenue.
The property was operated by TY Hospitality Limited, an affiliate of the Danjuma family, while Mosaic Hotels Ltd managed the hotel under a contract arrangement.
The difficult financial situation reportedly influenced the decision to shut the hotel as part of efforts to strengthen the family office’s UK investments.
The Kings Arms Hotel and its restaurant stopped trading on May 31, 2025. The property has now been placed on the market for nearly £3 million.
The decision comes amid higher operating costs, inflation and weaker demand affecting parts of the UK hospitality industry.
As of June 30, 2025, the TY Danjuma Family Office reportedly held assets worth £83.5 million. Its largest category was property, with 18 commercial and 53 residential properties across the United States and Europe valued at more than £40 million. Financial investments were valued at about £30.2 million.
The family office represents only a portion of Danjuma’s wider business empire, with major interests, including oil company SAPETRO, managed outside the UK structure.
Sources said the decision to sell the London hotel reflects a cautious approach to preserving capital and concentrating resources on investments with stronger long-term prospects.
