The Wamufat Youth Community Development Foundation (WYCDF), a United States-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has unveiled plans for Free Eye Clinic 2026, a large-scale medical outreach designed to deliver free, comprehensive ophthalmic care to 1,000 underprivileged patients across Ogun State, even as it issues an urgent appeal for corporate and public sponsorship to fund the initiative. Slated for August 5 and 6, the two-day intervention will run simultaneously at OOPL, Abeokuta, and Scorpio Eye Clinic, Abeokuta, commencing daily by 8:00 a.m. The initiative is being coordinated in partnership with Engr. Oluwatoyin Jokosenumi of the Bada Owu Kingdom, alongside medical collaborators Vision Saver and Scorpio Eye Clinic, in what organisers describe as a direct response to Nigeria’s quietly worsening burden of preventable blindness.
Beneficiaries will receive a full suite of services entirely free of charge, including diagnostic eye check-ups and professional counselling, surgical interventions such as cataract removal for medically eligible cases, medications and reading glasses, and structured post-operative follow-up care. Registration has already opened at the Palace of Olowu of Owu, Oke-Ago Owu, Abeokuta, with on-site sign-up also available at both venues during the event. Officials have cautioned that slots are strictly limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, urging intending patients to arrive early for mandatory assessment, come prepared with breakfast, and expect bottled water provided on ground.
Speaking on the campaign, Program Coordinator Engr. Oluwatoyin Jokosenumi framed the initiative as one rooted in dignity rather than mere medicine, while renewing the foundation’s appeal for support. “Restoring sight is restoring life,” she said. “When we give someone the ability to see again, we don’t just heal their eyes, we restore their dignity, their capacity to work, their ability to care for their families, and their connection to the world around them.” Her call was for corporate organisations, philanthropic foundations, development agencies, and individual donors to rally behind the mission, with sponsors set to receive brand visibility, tax-deductible receipts, and detailed impact reports in return for their support.
