The family of Michael Oyedokun, the schoolteacher murdered by his abductors while in captivity, says their grief remains fresh even as the remaining victims of the May 15 Oyo school abductions return home. Oyedokun was among the teachers seized by gunmen from Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area, before he was killed during captivity. The other 44 victims regained freedom on Friday after 56 days in captivity, following a joint rescue operation by the military, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Police Force. Reacting on Instagram, Oluwabukolami, who identified Oyedokun as her uncle, said the family was happy for other reunited families but remained devastated by their own loss. "They are finally home. My heart rejoices with every family that has been reunited with their loved ones after weeks of pain, fear and uncertainty. Welcome home," she wrote. "But as others celebrate, my family mourns. "My uncle, Mr Michael Olugbade Oyedokun, will never come home. "He was taken from us, and his life was brutally cut short. Our joy is incomplete because one chair at our table will remain empty forever. "Today, we celebrate those who returned while remembering the one who never did. Rest in peace, Uncle Michael. You will never be forgotten." The gunmen struck on May 15, attacking Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and LA Primary School, Ogbomoso — all in Oriire Local Government Area.

Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, famously known as 2Face/2Baba, has slammed members of his family, accusing them of fuelling damaging rumours about his personal life and putting the safety of his partner, Natasha, at risk.

In a video message released on X.com late Thursday, the singer said the situation had “gotten dangerously out of hand,” adding that he would no longer keep quiet while his name and relationships were dragged through the mud.

He said, “Good evening, this whole thing has gotten dangerously out of hand and I’m not just going to be quiet anymore. I feel I have to say some facts here. I’m a grown man and I believe I have the right to be with whoever I want to be with. Do you understand?

2Face/2Baba said that while certain members of his family claimed they were trying to “save” him, their actions had instead “destroyed” his peace and unfairly targeted Natasha.

“My family has, in trying to say they want to save me or say they want to help me, they have actually destroyed me, and you have killed somebody’s daughter’s character, like they’ve just literally killed somebody, because Natasha is getting death threats right now.

“Fine, we’ve had our quarrel, please tell me who doesn’t quarrel with their spouse, every once in a while? Please, all this has gotten out of hand.

The African Queen crooner stressed that despite ongoing rumours about his mental state, he was “perfectly okay” and had recently performed in Abuja, where fans saw him “out there, living, breathing, working.”

“I’m perfectly okay, I’m good, everybody has been seeing me out there, anybody that has eyes to see, they’ve seen me out there.

“I did my show recently in Abuja, a whole lot of people were there, how can you say you’re trying to save somebody and then you’re messing the whole, messing my life up.

“This is unacceptable to me, I’m not going to take this lightly anymore, it’s my own family, my brother’s, I’m sorry to say, but this is not right in any way.

“Natasha is getting death threats, this is so unfair, it’s not nice. I have the right to be whoever I want to be with.

“I’ve not gone to anybody’s house to interfere in their marriages, I’m not a child, I’ve always been a quiet peaceful person, Just see what it’s getting to me too much now, It has become too much.

The veteran singer also referenced his past marital issues, suggesting his family had a pattern of escalating private disputes into public spectacles.

“My family did this, they did this with Annie, the same thing. We all have our differences, we all have stuff that happens, but this has become so dangerous right now, it has become so dangerous, it’s not funny anymore.

“Natasha is getting death threats, they’ve ruined her whole life, they don’t do stuff like this, you don’t do things like this.

“In the name of saying you’re trying to save me, you’re destroying me, you’re destroying another person’s life. I don’t know if my own people don’t understand the damage that they are doing, my own family.

“I have the right to be with who I want to be with, you don’t do this, you don’t do stuff like this.

He accused former associates of fabricating lies and painting him as mentally unstable, something he described as “equivalent to killing somebody.”

“I’m deeply, deeply hurt by all that is going on right now, what my family is doing, what people I worked with before, going out there and saying all, fabricating so many lies and telling so many stories and it’s so unfair, it’s not nice.

“In the next couple of days, I’m going to really speak up and say a whole lot of things that have been going on that I’ve been quiet about, but I’m not going to be quiet about this anymore.

“I know my fans, people that love me, people that look up to me, people that respect me, I understand concern, I understand all that, but I’m perfectly normal, but painting me to be mentally unstable, painting me to be…this is ridiculous, this is equivalent to killing somebody.

“I don’t even know how to start breaking down a whole lot of things, but I’m not going to be quiet anymore, I’m not going to be silent anymore.

“This has got to stop, it has got to stop, and I beg everybody, please, please, I beg everybody to just have some human conscience, and stop all the death threats, stop all this harassment.

“They brought people to my house, writing a petition and saying all sorts of nonsense, this is not nice.

This comes amid earlier reports that the singer was briefly detained by UK police after an alleged altercation with Natasha during his October tour.

The matter resurfaced during an Instagram Live session with broadcaster Daddy Freeze, where the couple were heard arguing in the background, fuelling speculation of a marital crisis and raising concerns over the singer’s well-being.
