Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has strongly denied allegations made by former Head of Service Dr. George Nwaeke during a televised press briefing. Nwaeke had claimed Fubara was involved in plans to burn the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex and support Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed for a 2027 presidential bid.
In a signed statement, Fubara dismissed these allegations as “baseless and aimed at misleading the public,” emphasizing that Nwaeke would not have been privy to high-level political meetings. He also rejected claims that he orchestrated attacks on oil pipelines and other national assets in the state.
“I have always preached peace in Rivers State, even in the face of obvious provocations,” Fubara stated, suggesting that Nwaeke may have been coerced or financially induced to make false claims.
Adding a new dimension to the controversy, a video has emerged showing Nwaeke’s wife, Florence, tearfully contacting Governor Fubara via WhatsApp, expressing fears that her husband had been kidnapped. She claimed her husband resigned because he refused to sign documents against Fubara and was pressured into making statements under duress.
Screenshot messages reportedly from Nwaeke in the days before his media appearance show him seeking psychological support and financial assistance, complaining about his insufficient monthly income of less than N500,000 and requesting help.
