Rev. Fr. Ibrahim Amos, priest-in-charge of St Gerald Quasi Parish in Kurmin Risga, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has been kidnapped.
It was gathered that Fr. Amos was taken away by suspected gunmen who broke into his residence in Kurmin Risga around 12:15 am, on Thursday.
The Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Rev. Fr. Jacob Shanet, confirmed the abduction of Fr. Amos.
He called on the Catholic faithful to unite in prayer for the safe and swift release of the kidnapped parish priest.
He stated, “With profound sorrow, we write to announce that Rev. Fr. Ibrahim Amos, the Parish Priest of St. Gerald Quasi Parish, Kurmin Risga, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was abducted.
“The sad event occurred on Thursday, 24th April 2025, in his residence, Kurmin Risga, at about 12: 15 am.
“While we solicit your prayers for his quick and safe release, we invite the general public to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
“We will use every legitimate and available means to ensure that Rev. Fr Ibrahim Amos returns to us unharmed and in good health.”
He also invoked the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary to watch over the abducted priest and ensure his safe return.
When reached for comment on Thursday regarding the abduction, the spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, Mansir Hassan, told our correspondent, “I will call you back.”
As of the time this report was filed on Thursday, he had yet to get back to our correspondent as promised.
This is not the first time a Catholic priest has been abducted in Kaduna State.
Just last month, Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu was reportedly killed by bandits shortly after being kidnapped in the Kaura Local Government Area.
Until his death, Father Okechukwu served as the priest in charge of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Tachira, within the same local government area.
This tragic incident was also confirmed in a statement by the Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan.
